We’ve all arrived at a holiday party only to find the only thing there to eat is bacon wrapped cheesey bacon and some chocolate covered chocolate chip cake balls. Yummy, right? But not exactly on the meal plan. I always make sure I bring something that can eat. There’s usually a veggie tray or fruit tray at a party too, I say usually, because I’ve been to parties where chips were the sole appetizers. And I always have a protein bar in my purse, but, really, that’s no fun. I want to be able to eat party food! So I bring healthy party food! Is that a thing, you might ask? Of course it is, in fact here are 5 healthy dishes you can bring to a holiday party.
1. Avocado Deviled Eggs
This recipe is a lightened up version of the mayonnaise laden deviled eggs we all love. Check out my recipe here.
2. Veggie Tray with Lightened Up Dilly Dip
Another lighter version of a favorite! Same post. Check it out here.
3. Smoked Salmon Cucumber Cups
Get rid of the bread and serve this little appetizers right on the cucumber. They look as good as they taste! Here’s the recipe.
4. Lettuce Wraps
Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps -My lightened up chunky chicken salad recipe is so good!
Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps-Bring the chicken in a crock pot and the lettuce in a plastic container. Serve them side by side and let the party guests fight over them!
Most of the salads people bring to Christmas parties aren’t healthy. They are just as creamy and full of fat as the dips and spreads. Here are some healthy, crunchy, and delicious salad options that will give you and all the other party guests a nice reprieve from all of that junk!
Here are some other ideas for healthy holiday party dishes:
Shrimp cocktail is a high protein and low calorie choice
Use veggies to dip all those yummy dips instead of crackers and chips. The dips won’t be super healthy, but you’ll at least be able to try them and you’ll save a few hundred calories.
Bring some fruit with a little bit of vanilla yogurt for dipping instead of the super sweet and fatty cream cheese dip the fruit trays come with.
Need some sweets in your life? Meringues, Biscotti, and Kettle corn all are sweet without going overboard. Take some dark chocolate covered strawberries. You’ll be the most popular person there.
Whatever you decide, stick to it! There’s nothing more satisfying than setting a goal for yourself and being disciplined enough to follow through with it. This is how true changes in our lifestyles are made and real, long lasting habits are formed.
Have a great holiday season!
